Heading into the Home Stretch…

A new practice log is here! You can download it on the Forms page! :)

JAZZ BAND

Jazz Band meets after school from 3-4pm. Please see the calendar for the rest of the meeting dates before the concert. There are only 3 rehearsals left until the concert, so it is IMPERATIVE that you attend the rehearsals!  **Note: there will be NO rehearsal on Monday, April 16th due to a mandatory staff meeting after school.

5th Grade Instrument Testing

The 5th grade students will be coming to try instruments on Tuesday, April 17 from 4:30-7:30 in the cafeteria.  Those students that are signed up to help need to be there from 4:30-7:20 pm if possible.

PUFFS FOR POINTS!

We are in desperate need of Kleenex for the band room, especially since allergy season is here! Students will receive extra credit for bringing in a box of Kleenex!

Welcome to 2012!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break!  Third quarter begins this Monday, and there are a lot of exciting things happening between now and the end of the school year, so be sure to check back, check your email, and watch for papers coming home on a regular basis!

A new practice log will be passed out Mon/Tues (Practice Log #10).  Any students coming in before school to work on solo/ensemble music, or working with a private instructor should count that as practice time! :)

Jazz Band will resume on Monday, January 23, after school from 3-4 pm. We have some really exciting new music (you can check it out under the Jazz tab) which will be performed at the Spring Concert in May.

As of today (Saturday), the baby countdown is at 28 days (give or take, of course!)… Mr. Makropoulos will be keeping you informed on things happening in Feb/March (candy sale, Solo/Ensemble contest, IGSMA Organization Contest, future practice logs, etc…) If you have any questions about the rest of the band calendar before then, please let me know!

End of Quarter This Thursday!

This is a quick reminder to all students that the end of the quarter is approaching in a few days–this Thursday! If you have ANY outstanding work (either an “NHI” or an “INC”) it MUST be turned in before we leave for break. Check the Parent Web Module in case you’ve forgotten what you’re missing.

Also as the quarter winds down, I wanted to express my sincere thanks to all students and parents who have worked hard to make the first half of this year such an outstanding one! In the 12 years I have been teaching, I have got to honestly say that these concerts have been the best I’ve ever had the privilege to direct. I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas gift!

I will be with you as long as I can upon returning from break; my plan is to be here up until Feb. 3rd and return after spring break, but as parents, I’m sure you know that it rarely goes as planned :)   Mr. Makropoulos will be taking over for me when the time comes; he has worked with many of the 6th grade students this year in Band Camp and in E-period, as well as with the 7th and 8th grade in Marching and Jazz Band. I am really fortunate to have such a wonderful person coming into the position!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and winter break, and I’ll see you all next year! :)
