Band Notes–Week of 09.17.18

Fund Raiser
Our band fund raiser is in its final week! Please be sure to turn in your ONE CHECK or money order made payable to “Blue House Band Boosters” by FRIDAY. We can NOT take any late money/orders, and we can NOT take cash or multiple checks.

Pick up is at Drauden Point on Wednesday, Oct.24 from 4:30-7pm in the cafeteria. You MUST pick up your orders during that time. Since it is fresh, we cannot store anything left behind.

MARCHING BAND
Marching band will now end at 7pm! Please be sure you have your rides to Ira Jones by 7!

Band Polos
If you did not turn in your band polo order, you will be emailed directly. Please turn this in immediately, as I need to place the order to make sure we have them in time for our concerts.

Study Hall
Students are given passes to come down to band study hall at various times during the year, with the beginning of the year focusing on the skills of new students. It is super important that if you are scheduled to come down, you attend! These are the only times I have to work in small groups of like instruments. All students know at least a day (if not more) ahead of time as published on our daily announcements. It may be on a day they normally do not have class. Please help stress the importance of remembering to attend these mini-lessons!

Practicing
All students should be practicing outside of school classes. Just like any sport or physical and mentally demanding skill, practice is crucial to the success of our band. If you are unsure of what your student should be practicing, check under their grade level “Quizzes and Classwork” for the week, or send me an email!

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to email me! Have a great week! 🙂

Hello Aux Sable Band Families!

Our cookie dough fund-raiser is up and running! Hopefully you have seen in your email a copy of the letter and prize sheet that went home with the students. Please be sure to put the pickup date in your calendar, as we cannot store orders–they are fresh, and need to be refrigerated or frozen immediately.

Pick up date: Wednesday, October 24
Place: Drauden Point Cafeteria
Time: 4:30-7pm

Also, please remember that you should only submit ONE check or money order for your total, made payable to : Blue House Band Boosters.
We can NOT accept multiple checks or cash!

POLO ORDERS ARE DUE FRIDAY!!
If you need a form, you can find them under the “Forms” tab on this site. 7th and 8th graders that have grown out of/misplaced their uniform from last year should pay $10, made payable to “Aux Sable Middle School.”

8th Grade: PSHS GAME
PLEASE turn in your slip for this event immediately! Slips were due last Friday, and there are still a number of slips missing. You can print another slip from the Forms page of this site. Please be sure to note any food allergies, as we have to get our pizza count in the beginning of this week.

8th Grade: Performance Quiz This Week!
All 8th graders will have their “Radiers” quiz from memory this week, since it needs to be performed from memory at the PSHS game. This is something we’ve been working on in class since the first full week of school, and hopefully your students are performing this for you at home. They are going to sound GREAT at halftime!! 🙂

Jazz Band Begins MONDAY!!

Band Notes–Week of 09.04.18

Happy Labor Day everyone! Hopefully at some point this weekend, you were able to enjoy some rest and relaxation! 🙂

We are kicking off our annual fund raiser this week of the amazingly delicious cookie dough; please ask your student for the information coming home to you Tuesday or Wednesday. Please read the information CAREFULLY, as there are specific turn-in procedures!  More to come!

If there are any 7th or 8th graders still interested in Jazz band, rehearsals begin NEXT WEEK on 9/10, from 3-4 pm. Students need to sign up in the ENCORE hallway so I can anticipate instrumentation for the group. You do NOT need to audition unless you play guitar, bass guitar, piano, or drums. These auditions will be held TUESDAY, 9/4 both before and after school. Please bring your music with you!!

Stick Bag Orders are due by this Friday! Orders will be placed immediately after school, so I am unable to accept late orders.

8th Grade PSHS Forms  are due THIS FRIDAY. Feel free to turn them in early!! 8th graders’ Quiz on measures 22-end of “Raiders,” will be next week. The quiz will be from memory in small groups, since we need to play it from memory at the football game. Parents: please be encouraging your students to practice at home! This is a super fun and important experience for 8th graders, and I want them to be as successful as possible!

Polo Shirt Uniform Forms are due Friday, 9/14. If you are new to band, there is no fee. If you are a returning band member who needs a new shirt for whatever reason, there is a $10 fee. Please make checks payable to “Aux Sable.” You can find the form on this website by clicking on the “Forms” tab above.

6th grade 5-Note Quiz will be on 9/12 and 9/13. Many students have already passed early, which is awesome!

Practicing is the Key to Success!  It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it is well worth it! Please keep encouraging your students to practice at home, a minimum of 3 days a week for 20 minutes. Practicing at least on days we do not have class will help keep things fresh. Please encourage them to share with you what we are working on in class!

If you have any questions or comments, e-mail is always the best way to reach me! Have a great week! 🙂

Band Notes — Week of 08.27.18

By now, all students should have all of their supplies, as we have begun working towards our first goals of the year! 6th graders have begun preparing their first 5 notes, 7th graders are reviewing concepts from last year as well as beginning their concert music sight-reading, and 8th graders have already memorized a chunk of their piece for the PSHS game coming up on 9/21! Please take a look under your student’s grade level tab and click on quizzes and classwork to see what we will be focusing on for the week.

Handbook Scavenger Hunt/Form – DUE NO LATER than 8/31.

Instrument Loaner forms – DUE NO LATER than 8/31. If you are borrowing a school-owned instrument, students have received a loan form, stating that the instrument is yours to use during the school year. Repairs beyond normal wear-and-tear are the family’s responsibility, so please treat them as if they were your own!

8th Grade/PSHS Football Game – FORM DUE NO LATER than 9/7

POLO ORDER FORMS – DUE NO LATER than 9/14
If you are a new student, there is no fee for your polo. These forms went home in April at the instrument selection night. If you are a former student who has misplaced/grown out of their uniform, a $10 replacement fee will be collected, made payable to Aux Sable. The form is under the “Forms” section of the website.

Marching Band –If you are a 7th or 8th grader that has signed up for marching band, remember that rehearsals will be held at IRA JONES from 6-730 pm on Tuesdays between now and the parade Oct. 6th. See your marching calendar for more.
If you have a t-shirt that fits from last year, please let me know ASAP. If you need a new shirt, please bring $5 cash in a CLEARLY MARKED ENVELOPE with the student’s name and “Marching Band” on it.

Jazz Band
Signups are on the bulletin board in the ENCORE hallway! Please also take an information packet with a calendar and information.
WE NEED PIANO/GUITAR/BASS/DRUM SET players! However, please note that these instruments must also sign up for an audition time slot for September 4th, either before or after school. Auditions are held for these instruments, as they are “unique” and we can only fill at maximum 2 players per slot. *No other instruments need to audition since we can have multiple players in those areas.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me, as that is the best way to reach me!
Have a great week!

Welcome “Bach!”

If you have any questions prior to signing it, please e-mail me! Feel free to turn it in early!

All instruments and supplies – DUE NO LATER than 8/24 (next Friday!). In order to be successful, students need their instrument and supplies with them each day they have class. Please check under the individual grade levels on this site to be sure you have all of the supplies needed for class.

Instrument Loaner forms – DUE NO LATER than 8/31. If you are borrowing a school-owned instrument, you will receive a loan form, stating that the instrument is yours to use during the school year. One of the cool events 8th graders get to do is play for a PSHS varsity game. This year, the game will be held on Friday, Sept. 21st. Forms will be sent home with students today/tomorrow. We also need parents to help serve pizza, so if you would like to volunteer, there is a spot on the form for that! *please note this is not an optional event for the students as indicated in the handbook calendar. And besides, who doesn’t want free pizza and to hang out with the coolest people ever!? 🙂

The last full week of school is here!! Summer is right around the corner!

Summer Instrument Loan

If you have a SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENT (one borrowed from Aux Sable, NOT Quinlan!), please read:

6th Grade:
-if you plan to borrow the instrument to practice over the summer, please let me know so I can send home a summer loan form.

-If you wish to return it until next year, please do so BEFORE THIS THURSDAY, May 24th.

7th Grade:
-if you plan to borrow the instrument to practice over the summer, please let me know so I can send home a summer loan form.

-If you wish to return it until next year, please do so THIS FRIDAY, May 25th. This is the day after promotion. Since you will need them at promotion, please bring them to school the next day.

**ALL BANDS** Will be continuing to use their music books and rhythm books next year—keep them in a safe spot so you have them in August!

Marching Band
Current 6th and 7th graders interested in joining marching band for the homecoming parade should turn in their forms to me by the end of school!

Promotion

An informational flyer about Promotion went home two weeks ago for the 7th grade students. Promotion is THIS THURSDAY, May 24th, at 7pm. They need to report to PSHS band room by 6:30 in their band uniforms. Unless you have an 8th grader promoting, parents are NOT allowed to watch, since this is a ticketed event. Please plan on picking up your student in front of the school at 8pm—we cannot wait until the performance is over for them to call you. Also, all students are responsible for helping put the stands and percussion equipment back in the band room neatly. Please remember our behavior policy—no phones or excessive talking will be permitted, or students will be asked to leave and call for a ride home. Students should bring a book to read or watch the ceremony.

Summer Practice

Since learning music is a skill that is akin to learning a language plus a sport simultaneously, practice over the summer is vital to ensure that they return to school ready to play. If you don’t use it, you lose it! So please encourage your students to keep their instruments from collecting dust and practice over the summer! Aside from their books, music stores sell books with other songs (Disney, Pop, Classical, etc.) that they can learn on their own. Also, Summer is a great time for you to take your instrument in to get flushed/cleaned—sort of like an oil change for your car. When in doubt, call Quinlan at 630.654.4111

If you have any questions, please e-mail me, as that is the best way to reach me.

Have a great week!! 🙂
